I’ve seen the tapes so often, now I remember them instead. For the cyberpunks, by stark contrast, technology is visceral. Dick, John Brunner (The Shockwave Rider, 1975), Vernor Vinge (True Names, 1981), and K. Slippery, is pure cyberpunk, as are characters like DON. Science-fiction writer David Brin describes cyberpunk as "...the finest free promotion campaign ever waged on behalf of science fiction." Postmodernism and cyberpunk are thus inextricably interwoven, and it is of significant importance to consider both when examining examples of cyberpunk text precisely because of the vast numbers of significations at play.

Within science fiction, I like the imagination of Jack Vance, the speculative audacity of Vernor Vinge, Will McCarthy and Charles Sheffield, the style and character development of George R. Robert Heinlein was an extremely influential science fiction writer who may have been overshadowed in the long run by Isaac Asimov, but Heinlein is well known and loved among science fiction fans. Anything from Atwood to Zelazny that helps us become 'Well Read in SF'.
